Alright, she isn't singing about Gaga. This is what we call sloppy criticism, taking lines completely out of context and aligning them to suit an already flimsy thesis. But, you know, maybe. Fair warning, if you don't like disco, you won't like this. I'm pretty sure Murphy is flying independently now, but hopefully she'll get together funds for some video work. The cuts from her 2007 album Overpowered were sort of amazing (below is the most subtle of the three that I know, "You Know Me Better." If you want unsubtle (read: awesome), peep "Let Me Know.")

momma's place
Gaga is fine. No one is saying that Gaga is not fine. But homegirl didn't start the Ace of Base revival, and she's not the only one who can rock some avant garde shit. Roisin Murphy has been doing it for years and without the grandstanding about being a "performance artist." Some might argue that Gaga's ascendence could help Roisin, you know, actually sell records, but it doesn't exactly sound like Murphy is interested. Newly released single "Momma's Place" puts the kibosh on all the media frenzy surrounding what essentially amounts to kids playing dress up with twenty-year-old outfits. "So you think you know it all? Well, that's the arrogance of youth ... you think you invented being bad," she scoffs. It takes skill to make maturity sound sexy.
